LULU SHERMAN

Lulu Sherman is a Southern California-based contemporary artist known for her evocative, hyperrealistic charcoal works examining identity, consciousness, and the natural world. Rooted in her upbringing in New Orleans and a background as a filmmaker, Sherman brings a cinematic command of light and atmosphere to the physical medium of charcoal.

 

She holds an honors B.F.A. from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Prior to dedicating her practice exclusively to fine art, Sherman was an award-winning filmmaker with screenings at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and across New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

 

In 2024, Sherman transitioned from the digital frame to the tactile medium of charcoal, pushing its technical limits through her atmospheric figurative and landscape works. Her commissioned portraiture and original works are held in prominent private collections nationwide and exhibited in select galleries throughout Southern California.
